Too Old For Foo-Foo? {Recipe: Lemon Grass Strawberry Daiquiri} (2024)

Jump to Recipe -

I always feel a bit self conscious drinking Strawberry Daiquiris. Do you? I don’t really know why I feel that way, but I do.

Perhaps it’s because my very first ever alcoholic drink was a Strawberry Daiquiri. I’ve always felt like it was the “safe” “foo-foo” drink… and at my old age I thought if people saw me drinking a daiquiri they would just assume I wasn’t mature enough to handle a real co*cktail. I mean, real women drink things like gin and tonic and Manhattan’s… not foo foo Strawberry Daiquiris, right?

Finally I began to realize…I really doubt anyone out there is talking about my choice in co*cktails. Who cares if we’re out in a fancy nightclub and I order a foo foo Strawberry Daiquiris instead of a womanly G&T? Well, I would actually care because I never go to fancy nightclubs so I’d kind of wonder how I got there in the first place…but anyhow…

Back to my point at hand, this Lemongrass Strawberry Daiquiri co*cktail is flirty, fun and fabulous. It’s mature and delicious and pretty… basically all those good things wrapped into one gorgeous drink. No one, in their right mind, could judge you for drinking this “foo foo” drink. No one. Sit back, blend one up and enjoy!

Lemon Grass Strawberry Daiquiri

A grown up version of a favorite beginners co*cktail!

Prep Time 10 minutes minutes

Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

For the Lemon Grass Simple Syrup:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 Tablespoons Gourmet Garden Lemon Grass

For the beverage:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries washed and hulled
  • 1/2 cup Lemon Grass Simple Syrup
  • 2 cups ice
  • 1/2 cup dark rum

Instructions

For the Lemon Grass Simple Syrup:

  • Bring the water and sugar to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Once boiling, remove from heat and add 3 Tablespoons of Gourmet Garden Lemon Grass Whisk in the lemon grass until well blended. Let cool.

For the co*cktail:

  • Place fresh strawberries, 1/2 cup cooled Lemon Grass Simple Syrup, ice and rum in the jar of your blender. Blend on high until all the ingredients are combined and co*cktail is smooth. Poor immediately into glasses and serve.

  • Note: If you have a robust blender like a Blendtec the ice crush / milkshake setting works well for smooth results. For other blenders, you may have to pour the daiquiri through a sieve to remove seeds if you want it to be completely smooth.

Notes

Store remaining simple syrup in a covered jar and place in the refrigerator for future use.

I looooooooooooooove a good daiquiri – I would never judge you for drinking it, I’d just ask where mine is 😉

I love daiquiris as well. I get feeling silly; I like White Russians but I feel ridiculous ordering them when I’m out. Mostly because it’s… milk… at a bar. I love the lemongrass twist here.

I don’t really drink, but damn if that doesn’t look fabulous! My house is never ever without strawberries…or my (soon to be) 5 year old would disown me.

Amy – I made a virgin version for the kids and they loved it. I replaced the Rum with lemonade and it was soooo good 🙂 I bet your 5 year old and you would love that!

Oh my! I felt in love with Daiquiri every since my visit to New Orleans! When I read your recipe, I was so happy to find out how simple it is to make the lemon grass syrup (without chopping and bounding the fresh lemon grass, don’t get me wrong, it’s one of my favorite aromatic ingredient of all times). And guess what, I just got some Gourmet Garden lemon grass in the fridge! I’m totally making this drink….like now! hahaha…thanks for sharing. Cheers to you!

I think the only place to safely enjoy a daiquiri is on a beach. Otherwise, yeah, it’s kind of foo-foo. Though, I must say that when you spruce it up the way you have with some lemongrass, it definitely makes it a bit more classy.

I am a gin & tonic drinker, but I would drink this without a second thought. In fact, I’ll take that whole tray off your hands. Just send the entire thing my way.

I think this sounds amazing, and definitely not too foo-foo. Not that my last blog post would suggest it, but I really do tend to go with drinks of a lot less alcohol content, and more foo-foo like this. It really makes me think of summer too, which I am wishing was here right now. Maybe we can will it to come????

I love the flavors of this drink & your photo is so pretty I feel like gulping it all down right now. Personally, I use lemon grass a lot in Asian cooking and have used the regular stalks in dishes. Now that I know you can find a convenient tube of lemon grass flavors, then that will make my cooking easy. Thanks for sharing this drink! Cheers 🙂

I’ve totally felt “foo foo” drink peer pressure before…and it is NOT fun. I would be so happy to be slurping down one of these babies though! No matter what anyone said about it.

I became addicted to virgin strawberry daiquiris when I was about 11, then moved onto the “real” version in my early 20s. I would happily sit and sip on a couple of daiquiris with you…even in a fancy nightclub.

I have not been to a nightclub in lightyears! But I would take you up on the foo-foo daquiri any time. When i am out with my girlfriends I usually end up ordering a mango or a strawberry daquiri … it#s just the perfect way to end a girl’s night out! So when are we doing our girl’s night out?

I love lemongrass and I’ve been struggling with grinding it into a smooth paste for a while now. I was hoping to find something like this paste, but did not see it anywhere. I am so glad that it exists! Now I just need to find a store that sells it. And I was also looking for a lemongrass drink recipe. So this post solves all my problems :-). Thank you!
