So lately I have been on a quest to figure out things for my preschooler to enjoy that are toddler friendly so I can include Little Dragon (age 1) in our activities. That means no choking hazards or inedible stuff. I am guessing a lot of moms are on the same search. We have used this edible paint recipe a lot and love it because it is super fast to make, taste safe, and makes what we are eating a work of art. So it’s time we make our paint official with its own special post to share with you because I am sure you and your kid’s will love it just as much as we do!

The colors show up nice and bright and the cool thing is the paint even dries so you can eat your edible art project without getting sticky. We have painted jello, fondant, and marshmallows. It can even work on paper (although I don’t recommend eating paper even if it tastes sweet and looks pretty :). Here is how to make it:

Pin Me Please! 🙂

Ingredients:
Sweetened condensed milk
Food coloring

Directions:

1. Mix 1 tbs. sweetened condensed milk with 1-2 drops of food coloring and stir until well blended.

Now you are ready to paint, it’s as simple as that. The sweetened condensed milk takes food coloring really well so you don’t need to use a lot.

Isn’t it fun creating art with food? We are huge fans of playing with our food.We hope you enjoy your edible paint as much as we do!

  2. I love this idea. It is very hard to find ideas for my 19 month grandson to participate in activities as everything ends up in his mouth. I have been looking for a way for my grandson’s to paint sugar cookies and I think this will be perfect. Thank you for the idea!

  3. This might be a silly question, but do you think if we painted on paper, would it get "yucky" after a while? For example, if my kids painted a picture and I hung it on the refrigerator for a month, would it last? Have you every done that? I've always wondered about that when I see things about edible paint.
P.S. I came across this from the Art Projects for Kids pinning party! 🙂

    1. Hi Sarah thanks for asking. I think as long as the paint is able to dry and stay dry, the painting should last. We have left ours up for a month and it has been fine. We live in a very dry area, so I am not sure if it would work as well in a humid area. I hope that helps. Thanks for visiting!

    1. Hi Joanna
Thanks so much for visiting! We are blessed to live in a place where house ants are not common (when we lived in CA it was a total different story). I have left our art projects out for days here and haven't had a problem with ants. I haven't tried it, but if you aren't going to eat your art project you could try spraying it with finishing spray to seal in the sweetness that ants might be attracted to. I hope that helps. Have a great day!
